General Club Information
The UNSW Windsurfing Club is one of the sporting/social clubs at the University of New South
Wales. It currently has around 60 members, all of whom are able to participate in the following
fantastic things:
- Beginners Days
- Our qualified instructors will get you up and sailing with the greatest of ease. Lessons
for members are highly subsidised by the club (ie almost free!)
- Sailing Days
- Experience the excellent locations Sydney has to offer on our sailing days. Held on weekends
, these days provide a welcome escape from study. If you own your own equipment you can bring it
- otherwise members have unlimited use of one of our fleet of 20 Club Boards. Usually one of
the club executive members remembers to bring our club BBQ and a few slabs of light refreshments, all
of which are heavily subsidised (ie five dollars for all you can eat and drink!)
- Social events
- What university club is complete without a stack of social events?! Occasions such as Inter-University
Pub crawls, Drink a Pub Dry, Weekends away and other events in conjunction with other
Sydney universities are all major events on every member's calendar!
- Weekends Away
- Escape from study crises by spending the odd weekend away at a great sailing location.
Recent trips have encompassed locations such as Wollongong (Lake Illawarra),
Toronto (Lake Macquarie), Port Macquarie and Hawks Nest. Learn new skills including racing techniques and night
sailing, along with have a great time!
- Racing
- The club provides the best opportunity to start racing by providing equipment, subsidised
entry fees and tips and instruction from experienced club members - past members have won the
occasional World Title and Olympic Medal - why not benefit from their considerable
experience! Even if you sail a short board, One Design racing can improve your board skills
and general sailing enjoyment in light winds.
- Intervarsity
- The highlight of the University sailing year! Held at a different location every year, it
is the pinnacle of racing, where we represent UNSW and attempt to disgrace the teams from the
other Uni's around the country with our skillful sailing. Intervarsity always provides good,
friendly racing, with usually the odd novelty event or party thrown in!
- Monthly Newsletter
- These keep you informed of anything that is happening with the club i.e. coming sailing days,
social events etc. If you have any gear for sale, members can advertise for free. To view the
current edition of the newsletter, click HERE!
